Happy May Day

Not being aware of the calendar at all, and having been out to NERAX last night with some good friends, I found myself wide awake at 4:40am, for no apparent reason. Lo and behold, it is May Day. This marks the third year in a row I have somehow managed to wake predawn for this. So off I go the the Charles river to enjoy dawn song, morris dancing, maypole wrapping and being greeted by Harvard students in formalwear who have not slept recently.
I have no idea how I manage it, but once again I had a wonderful time, despite the chilly weather. When I first arrived, there were no familiar faces, but shortly after dawn, in fact during the very first song, folks started appearing, and the crowd grew, and there were many friends around. Thank you coraline for still-warm homemade challah!
Sadly I was feeling somewhat run down this year (I blame that on NERAX) and damn cold to boot, so I opted to decamp when the crowd moved on from their initial river spot. I did my job, dawn sung in, maypole wrapped, etc etc. :)
